As of December 31, 2016 PennDOT will stop issuing registration stickers.  Not issuing stickers will result in a significant cost savings to taxpayers. According to PennDOT, ” The elimination of the registration sticker will realize a cost savings to taxpayers of $1.1 million per year; it is estimated an additional $2 million will be saved in mailing costs.”

Law enforcement will have access to the PennDOT electronic database from their patrol cars.  Customers are still required to maintain a current vehicle registration and the registration cards must be presented to law enforcement officers when asked.
