Recently rising jazz star Kamasi Washington performed at SteelStacks. Warming up the night was the talented Charter Arts Big Band from the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts, recent finalists in the Steel Stacks High School Band Showcase. The big band tastefully interpreted selections from the swing era and more contemporary big band repertoire as well. In addition to impressive ensemble playing band leader Mike Lorenz gave plenty of opportunity for individuals to showcase their talents with solos across the band including an extended clarinet feature by Griffin Woodard on Ellington’s “In a Sentimental Mood”. Kamasi Washington watched the whole set intently from the upper level.
