Large black bear captured on home video in East Allen Township neighborhood

EAST ALLENTOWN TWP., Pa - An unexpected visitor showed up over the weekend at a neighborhood in East Allentown Township, Northampton County. The neighborhood is located just off of Airport Road.

The owner posted a Facebook video capturing a large black bear. (see below)

Black bears are common in Pennsylvania.

If you see a bear, please keep these things in mind:

If you see a bear in your neighborhood, do not approach it. Be aware of your surroundings and monitor small children and pets Do not offer food to the bear.

Most black bears will appear in backyards looking for food. They have an excellent sense of smell. (You can see this bear on the video below - It appears he is looking around for food).

A black bear can eat just about anything - even pet food.

Refrain from storing household garbage outside. They are drawn to that and also love birdseed and suet. Both contain lots of protein and fat.

It's recommended that feeders be taken down at night. Even uneaten food that collects below feeders should be cleaned up.

As long as the bear shows no signs of aggression, the Game Commission recommends leaving it alone. It will eventually move out of the area.
