Spraying to take place in Allentown due to presence of West Nile virus-positive mosquitos

According to the City of Allentown, a truck-mounted spray operation (Aqua Duet Water-Based Dual-Action Adulticide) will be carried out again in the City to target mosquitoes carrying the West Nile between 7:30 and 9:30 pm.

According to their Facebook post, the latest sample, taken after last week's spray, indicates a continued presence of West Nile virus-positive mosquitos.

Another operation will be carried out at Highland Cemetary, Sumner Avenue, and neighborhoods around Union and West End Cemetary - with the addition of Trexler Park and Martin Luther King Blvd areas.

About the West Nile Virus:

The West Nile virus is typically transmitted by infected mosquitoes. These insects primarily bite and infect wild birds, which serve as the main carriers of the virus. However, they can also spread the virus to humans, horses, and other mammals.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection works with representatives from all 67 counties to establish a comprehensive network for mosquito surveillance and control. The management of this program is overseen by the Lehigh Conservation District.

If it rains, the spraying will be postponed and rescheduled for Thursday, September 7.
