Statewide Special Firearms Season begins in Pennsylvania - Antlerless Only

The Special Firearms Season will take place across Pennsylvania starting today.

It runs from Thursday, Oct. 19 to Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023,

This ANTLERLESS ONLY season is open STATEWIDE to all junior and senior license holders, mentored license holders, active-duty military, and persons with a permit to use a vehicle as a blind for three days this month, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Hunters must currently possess a valid antlerless permit to participate in the Special Firearms Season.

According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, the “special regulations” season started during the 2001-2002 hunting season with a few special objectives in mind. First, it was to remove antlerless deer prior to the breeding season. This would improve the buck-to-doe ratio and save bucks from wasting energy trying to breed antlerless deer that would then be harvested in December.
