2.9 magnitude earthquake rattles part of Northern New Jersey early Friday morning: USGS

GLADSTONE, N.J. - A magnitude 2.9 earthquake struck early Friday morning in New Jersey, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).


The USGS said the earthquake struck Gladstone, New Jersey around 3:50 am – the same town that experienced an aftershock following a 4.8 magnitude earthquake in April.


The earthquake occurred about 6 miles west-southwest of Gladstone, Somerset County, according to the USGS.

More than 670 people reported feeling the quake.


No damage was reported.


This earthquake comes exactly seven weeks after the larger magnitude 4.8 earthquake that many felt in the Lehigh Valley area. The epicenter of that earthquake, which occurred on Friday, April 5, was near Whitehouse Station, Hunterdon County.
