Ford issues recall on potentially dangerous parking brake malfunction on F150 pickup trucks

Ford is facing a major recall as it calls back over 870,000 of its 2021 to 2023 model F-150 pickups due to a potentially dangerous parking brake malfunction. The company took action after receiving reports from at least 19 drivers stating that their parking brakes activated while they were driving, posing a significant safety risk.

The issue arises from the trucks' "rear axle wiring harness bundle" rubbing against the rear axle housing, causing wear on the circuit insulation and potentially exposing the wiring. This damaged electric parking brake wiring can lead to unintended parking brake application while driving, which in turn increases the risk of a crash and loss of vehicle control.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of accidents or injuries related to this defect, but Ford is taking precautionary measures to address the problem. The company has advised affected F-150 owners to take their vehicles to a dealer for inspection. If the abrasion tape shows no signs of wear-through, the dealer will install a protective tie strap and tape wrap at no additional charge.

Ford's F-series trucks have been incredibly popular and have held the top-selling position in the US for many years. However, this recall shows the company's commitment to prioritizing safety and ensuring that potential issues are addressed promptly to protect its customers and maintain their trust.
