"Mary Poppins" actress Glynis Johns dies at 100 years of age

According to her publicist, Glynis Johns, the British actress best known for her role as Mrs. Winifred Banks in "Mary Poppins," has passed away of natural causes.


Born on October 5, 1923 in Pretoria, South Africa Johns was 100 years old.


Johns starred alongside Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke in the 1964 Academy Award-winning Disney film as the suffragette mother Mrs. Banks.


Glynis Johns starred in the 1960s classic Mary Poppins, alongside Davd Tomlinson, Matthew Garber and Karen Dotrice


Johns appeared in over 60 films, including, "While You Were Sleeping" and "The Sundowners" in addition to several television shows including "Cheers," "Murder, She Wrote" and "The Love Boat."


Johns got her start as a performer at an early age. When she was 15, she made her screen debut in "South Riding," a British drama film by director Victor Saville.


In an eight-decade career spanning the stage and screen, Johns was also the recipient of a Tony Award and a Drama Desk Award as well as nominations for a Golden Globe Award and a Laurence Olivier Award.
