The world-famous groundhog is a father of two healthy babies

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. — Each year we celebrate Ground Hog Day and thousands of people come together from all over the world to celebrate the prediction of a furry forecaster (Punxsutawney Phil).

The world-famous groundhog is now the father of two healthy babies that were born on Saturday, March 23. Punxsutawney Phil and his wife Phyllis have started a family.

The announcement on Facebook said, "We have Babies!!" "The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club is very excited to announce that Phil and Phyllis have given birth to two healthy baby Groundhogs!" "The babies are currently in with mom and dad at the zoo that is located at the Punxsutawney Memorial Library, and can be viewed thru the viewing window!"

Apparently, it was a total surprise for everyone. "We did not think that this would happen in captivity because it never has. But apparently, we were wrong,” Punxsutawney Groundhog Club Inner Circle President Thomas Dunkel explained.

Dunkel said a Groundhog Club member discovered the little groundhogs when he came to feed them fresh fruits and vegetables.

“I talked to Phil with the use of my cane that lets me speak Groundhogease and Phil could not be more excited to have started a family,” Dunkel said.

The Groundhog Club is working to move Phil and his family to a new home in the heart of Gobbler’s Knob.

“Now we have a place for Phil’s family to enjoy a brand new zoo up at Gobbler’s Knob. So it’s going to be great. We’re pleased and so is Phil,” Dunkel said.

The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club previously said that Phil has never had any children.

The clubs says, "There has only been one Punxsutawney Phil. He has been making predictions since 1886!  Punxsutawney Phil gets his longevity from drinking the "elixir of life," a secret recipe. Phil takes one sip every summer at the Groundhog Picnic and it magically gives him seven more years of life.
