56-year-old woman dies in Bethlehem house fire

BETHLEHEM, Pa - 56-year-old Ladell Christie died as a result of a house fire in Bethlehem on Wednesday, May 22, according to Northampton County Coroner, Zachary R. Lysek.


Christie was found deceased in her residence in the 900 Block of Broadway, according to the coroner.


According to a WFMZ news article, Bethlehem fire crews first arrived on the scene just before 1 a.m. Wednesday and saw Christie attempting to escape the home through a third-floor window.

"Upon arrival, they found a fire on the third floor and rescued one victim from the third floor," according to Bethlehem Fire Chief Michael Reich.


Firefighters used a ladder to help Christie out, but tragically, she died on the scene.


According to WFMZ, the son tried to get to the third floor to rescue his mother, but he wasn't able to get there because of the flames.


The cause and manner of death are pending the completion of the investigation, according to the coroner.


The Fire Chief said there were no other injuries.

Family and friends have created a GoFundMe to go towards funeral costs.


Her son described her as a "Good mother, a good friend to everyone. That's why everyone was out here. She was loved," according to a WFMZ News report.
