77-year-old man dies two weeks after house fire in Schuylkill County

MINERSVILLE, Pa - A 77-year-old man has died two weeks after a house fire in Schuylkill County, according to authorities.


Mario R. Ramirez was pronounced dead on Sunday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, according to the Lehigh County coroner.


The fire occurred on April 14 in the 600 Block of N. 2nd Street in Minersville.


Mr Ramirez suffered critical burns and died of complications from burns to 35% of his body, according to the coroner and his death was ruled an accident.


According to a Channel 69 News report, a neighbor jumped and scaled his way up to the top floor of the three-story home to rescue several people trapped on the top floor of the burning rowhome. A man was pulled from the window as smoke billowed out, according to 69 News.


A total of three people were rescued from the roof, according to the news report, and two firefighters were taken to the hospital for smoke and heat.


A total of six homes were damaged and about 20 people were displaced, according to the report.
