Allentown School District to dismiss schools early remainder of week due to excessive heat

Out of caution and due to excessive heat and lack of air conditioning, the Allentown School District dismissed schools early today (Tuesday, September 5, 2023). Temperatures exceeded 90 degrees with a real feel temperature of 101 degrees.

According to the school district, that level of heat disrupts student learning and productivity and creates a potential health hazard for students and staff–especially those with underlying medical conditions.

Although the District has made historical investments in HVAC upgrades, the final phase of this project will take place during the Summer of 2024, the District said.

The Schol District will dismiss early for the remainder of the week.

All Middle and High Schools will dismiss at 11:00 a.m.

All Elementary Schools & Building 21 will dismiss at 12:15 p.m. All LCTI & LCCC Early College schedules remain the same. Breakfast & Lunch will be available to all students this week.

Daily attendance will be taken. Students who do not attend will be marked absent.

Additional information regarding school-specific events, athletics & activities will be forthcoming.
