Catasauqua residents are reminded to call 911 when reporting a fire after delayed responses to recent fires

CATASAUQUA, Pa - In a recent press release, Catasauqua Fire Marshall/Fire Inspector Raymond Anthony reminded people to call 9-1-1 in an emergency situation.

Within the past five (5) days, the Catasauqua Fire Department responded to two fires in which the occupants did not call 911 to report the fire, according to the news release. In both cases, the calls were made directly to the fire station and in one instance, a voicemail was left for the Fire Chief reporting the fire.

In both cases, there was a delay in notification to the fire department and subsequently a delay in response, according to the release. Thankfully, there were no injuries due to the fires.

In Catasauqua and North Catasauqua, both departments like the majority of the region are all volunteer. Anthony said, there is no guarantee that someone is at the station to answer your phone call.

In an emergency situation, you should call 9-1-1.

The fire station phone number goes through a series of prompts to get to a certain person or office. The delay can be dangerous depending on your emergency.

Non-emergency calls should be directed to 610-437-5252 which is the non-emergency line at the Lehigh County Communications Center.

Again, if you have an emergency call 9-1-1.

Should you have questions concerning fires or fire safety, please email either the Fire Marshal or Fire Chief at.
