Dallas Cowboys trade Micah Parsons to Green Bay Packers

FRISCO, Texas – With just a week remaining before the NFL season begins, the Dallas Cowboys have made one of the most shocking moves in NFL history.

On Thursday, the team traded All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, according to a tweet from Parsons on social media. In exchange for Parsons, the Cowboys received a 2026 and 2027 first-round pick and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark.

Parsons, who was involved in a contract dispute with the organization while seeking an extension, has suddenly finished his time with Dallas after four seasons. Instead, he signed a four-year, $188 million extension with Green Bay, making him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history.

For most of the offseason, the word used to describe Parsons' future with the Cowboys was "when." Now, it's "how?"

At 26, Parsons has emerged as the linchpin of one of the most significant and groundbreaking trades in NFL history. Despite owner and GM Jerry Jones's repeated assertions that the team would not trade Parsons following his official request on August 1, the Cowboys ultimately reversed their decision.

Over four years with the Cowboys, Parsons accumulated 52.5 sacks across 63 games and became one of only two players in NFL history, alongside Hall of Famer Reggie White, to achieve 12 or more sacks in each of their first four NFL seasons. Over those four years, Parsons was also named defensive rookie of the year in 2021, was a two-time All-Pro, and earned a Pro Bowl nod in each year.

With just days before the 2025 season kicks off, it goes without saying that a player of Parsons' caliber will have an impact on Dallas' defense.
