Dump truck rolls and spills manure, closes part of I-78 in Northampton County

L. SAUCON TWP., Pa. -- A crash involving a dump truck and car shut down the eastbound lanes of Interstate 78 in Northampton County for more than three hours Tuesday morning.


The truck and car crashed near the Route 412/Hellertown exit in Lower Saucon Township around 8 a.m, according to Trooper Nathan Branosky of the Pennsylvania State Police.

Trooper Branosky said that the truck rolled and spilled manure and mushroom soil all over the highway.


Traffic was heavily backed up while the eastbound lanes were shut down.


The highway reopened just after 11 a.m. but delays were still being reported.


Police say that the truck driver had minor injuries, but passengers in the car were not hurt.


No word on what led to the crash.
