Fatal crash on I-78 claims the life of a New Jersey man

GLENDON, Pa - A New Jersey man was killed on Interstate 78 on Monday evening (June 16) after a car he was pushing was struck by a tractor-trailer.
According to the Northampton County Coroner, the man is identified as 33-year-old Tyler R. Kolaja, from Hamburg, New Jersey.
At approximately 10:15 pm, Troopers from PSP Belfast responded to the vicinity of I-78 Eastbound, Mile Marker 74.3, Glendon Borough, Northampton County for the report of a motor vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer.

Upon arrival, it was determined that a male from New Jersey was pushing his 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, in the right lane of travel, while a female from New Jersey was steering the vehicle due to the vehicle being out of gas.
Police say, while the vehicle was being pushed, a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound struck the Chevrolet Equinox, and another tractor-trailer, which was disabled on the shoulder of the highway, causing fatal injuries to the male pushing the vehicle.
The female steering the Chevrolet was transported to Saint Luke’s Anderson Hospital.
According to the Northampton County Coroner, the cause of death is due to multiple blunt force injuries, and the manner of death was ruled as an accident.
While the crash was being investigated, traffic was detoured through State Route 33.
All lanes of I-78 eastbound were reopened at approximately 4 a.m. Tuesday.
The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M - Belfast Station is investigating the crash, which remains under investigation with the assistance of the Northampton County Coroner's Office.
No further information is available at this time.
