Fifth-grade student struck by car after school in Pottstown Wednesday

POTTSTOWN, Pa. - A fifth-grade student was struck by a car in Pottstown Wednesday afternoon, according to a Channel 69 news report.


The child was struck after school at the corner of Charlotte and East streets, according to Pottstown School District officials.


WFMZ reported that police and emergency responders were immediately called and the child was transported to the hospital for treatment.



John Armato, a district spokesperson said, "Pedestrian safety is a critical concern for our school community. We are working closely with the Pottstown Police Department and other relevant agencies to ensure the safety of all our students" "We understand that this incident is deeply distressing for students, parents, and staff alike, and we are committed to providing the necessary support.


The district says it has activated counseling and mental health services for anyone feeling distressed as a result of this incident, according to the news report.


The investigation into what caused the accident is ongoing.


There is no word on the child's condition at this time.
