WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - About a dozen people were displaced, and five homes were damaged, two beyond repair when a fire broke out in the 400 block of Carolina Avenue in Whitehall Township Monday morning.

Seven companies and about 100 firefighters responded to the fire.

Crews battled the fire that started around 11 am and quickly spread to other homes filling the air with flames and smoke.

Thankfully no one was injured and pets were safe, according to a report by WFMZ News.

According to Whitehall Deputy Fire Marshal Mark Bilder, the homes were built in the 70's or 80's before firewalls were required by law. He says Monday's good weather kept the fire from getting worse.

"We didn't have a high wind, so we didn't have a spread. Once we got the trench cut in place, that stopped the spread of the fire, we were able to extinguish the fire at that point," Bilder said.

One family that came from Syria now finds themselves starting over. It was their first American home.

No official word yet on a cause. Bilder says that will be part of the investigation.
