Flood Warning issued for Delaware River in Easton - Phillipsburg

A flood warning has been issued for the Delaware River in Easton - Phillipsburg, according to the National Weather Service.


At 18.0 feet, backwater from the Delaware causes flooding in Easton along the Lehigh River.


At 20. feet, minor flooding begins upstream in Harmony Station New Jersey and Sandts Eddy Pennsylvania.


At 24.0 feet, Larry Holmes Drive in Easton is subject to flooding.


Riverside Way in Phillipsburg is flooded in the area of the boat ramp.


At 25.0 feet, portions of Bushkill Drive and Route 611 are flooded due to a combination of Delaware River flooding and backwater effects on Bushkill Creek.





Additional Details:


As of 1:30 am on December 19th the stage was 20.7 feet and rising.


The river is expected to rise above flood stage early this morning to a crest of 24.0 feet this evening, according to the National Weather Service. It will then fall below flood stage late tonight. Flood stage is 22.0 feet.


The crest compares to a previous crest of 22.9 feet on March 8, 2011.


Please do not drive through flooded roadways.

Warning for the following rivers in Pennsylvania...New Jersey...

  Delaware River At Easton-Phillipsburg affecting Hunterdon,
  Northampton and Warren Counties.



For the Delaware River...including Easton-Phillipsburg...Minor
flooding is forecast.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around...don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most
flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law
enforcement and request they pass this information to the National
Weather Service when you can do so safely.
