Former employee arrested for putting needles in store items at Lower Macungie Giant - UPDATE




On April 24, 2023, Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville Criminal Investigation Unit arrested a juvenile, former employee of Giant, for the below food tampering investigation.


The juvenile is charged with recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief,.


A total of 11 needles were placed in merchandise at the store. There were no injuries sustained to customers as a result of this incident.


Upon further investigation, State Police have identified additional food items that may have been affected by this incident. (


Customers who purchased King Hawaiian Bread Rolls and StarKist Light Tuna Large pouch (pouches larger than 2.6 oz) who suspect the packages have been tampered are asked to return these items to Giant and contact the Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville Criminal Investigation Unit at 610-395-1438.


LIST OF FOOD ITEMS TAMPERED WITH:

- King's Hawaiian Rolls


- Starkist Light Tuna Large pouches (larger than 2.6 ounces)



ONES PREVIOUSLY IDENTIFIED BY STORE AS POTENTIALLY TAMPERED WITH:


- single-serve Tastykakes


- fresh bagged green beans


- loose sweet yellow and white onions


- fresh green asparagus


- soft packaged dog food and treats


- soft packaged cat food and treats


- instant mashed potatoes (boxed)


- cleaning sponges


Customers who utilized a Giant rewards card that is on file have been contacted if an item they purchased was possibly affected.


This investigation remains ongoing and will continue to be updated as needed.
