Gas leak in Northampton County prompts the evacuation of nearby residents

HELLERTOWN, Pa. - A gas leak in Hellertown prompted the evacuation of 25 nearby residents Thursday morning.


The gas leak was located at 56 West Water Street, according to John Mason a spokesman for UGI.


Dispatchers initially reported the gas leak this morning.


UGI was notified and responded to an odor call at 10:38 am..


A contractor working in the kitchen damaged an inside fuel line causing the leak, according to Mason.


The outside meter was shut off and everyone who was evacuated returned to their homes, according to Mason.


UGI is still on the scene.
