Goats killed in barn fire in Earl Township over the weekend

EARL TWP., Pa. — Crews in Berks County responded to a fully involved barn fire early Sunday morning.


According to the Earl Township Volunteer Fire Co., the fire was reported around 1:42 a.m.


The fire was located in the 200 block of Sunset Hill Road.


Crews worked until approximately 6 am to bring the fire under control, according to the fire department.


Earl Township Road crew assisted with salt trucks to keep the roadways clear.


Earl Township Fire Chief William Campfield reported that several goats were rescued from a barn, but unfortunately, some of them perished in the fire.


The blaze also destroyed equipment such as tractors and mowers, as confirmed by Campfield.


Several other departments were called in to fight the fire.


Thankfully, no residents or firefighters were injured, according to WFMZ News and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
