Lancaster County man discovers colorful caterpillar in his pair of shoes

Lancaster County, PA

Have you ever seen a caterpillar that looks like this?

A Lancaster County man came across a colorful caterpillar in his pair of shoes outside his home in the Conestoga Martic Forge area. At first, he thought someone dropped a Cheeto into his Croc!

The man wrote on Facebook, "I thought someone had dropped a Cheeto into my Croc when I first spotted this uniquely colored caterpillar. The pattern makes him look like a cartoon character with huge Disney princess eyes."

It ends up being a spicebush swallowtail. They certainly are unique-looking caterpillars!

Spicebush swallowtails are large black butterflies with iridescent blue (females) or green (males) on the hindwings. There are usually light spots near the edge of the forewings.
