LVH - Macungie opens Tuesday and features a 10-bed inpatient medical unit

MACUINGIE, Pa. - Lehigh Valley Health Network is opening a new hospital on Tuesday.

Lehigh Valley Hospital - Macungie located at 3369 Route 100, Macungie will officially open to patients at 7 a.m. It's located at the former Weis Markets supermarket.

On Friday, a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place.

According to LVHN, they were waiting for the state Department of Health official's final inspections before officially opening their doors.

The hospital is part of the new Macungie medical campus where the Health Center at Macungie opened in December 2023 and will be complete with an around-the-clock emergency room.

The hospital also provides lab and imaging services, X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan, and MRI services on an outpatient basis.

This is the first of several neighborhood hospitals LVHN is planning to build in the region and will fill a need not currently available in the Macungie area, according to officials.

In addition to the full-service ER with 11 beds, it features a 10-bed inpatient medical unit for those requiring overnight hospital stays, or for additional care, observation and testing. It also has ambulatory diagnostic services, according to LVHN.

According to LVHN, someone arriving at LVH–Macungie with more acute medical problems, or requiring surgery, would be stabilized, and transported to a larger LVHN hospital with increased care capability.

Pediatric patients requiring inpatient care will routinely be transferred to Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital.

Another LVHN neighborhood hospital and health center is under construction in Gilbertsville, Montgomery County, and is projected to open later this year.
