More than 8000 without power in Allentown after a fire at a PPL substation lit up the sky

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - More than 8,000 people are without power in Allentown Wednesday night, according to PPL.


Dispatchers reported a fire at a PPL Substation causing multiple transformer fires.

that took place in the 700 block of North 14th Street.


The sky lit up with bright colors, according to WGOLV contributors. Many wrote in asking what happened. Angie Brown reported seeing bright flashing lights changing from blue to purple to green, very bright like she'd never seen at the time the power went out.


The outages affected multiple traffic lights and street lights, according to a Facebook post by Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk



There is no word yet on what exactly happened, or if anybody was injured.
