Mosquito spraying to take place in Allentown in response to positive West Nile virus collections

ALLENTOWN, Pa - The City of Allentown will be conducting a truck-mounted Ultra-Low Volume spray operation (Aqua Duet Water-Based Dual-Action Adulticide) between 8:30 and 10 pm on Thursday in response to elevated Culex mosquito populations and confirmed cases of West Nile virus.

West Nile virus is primarily transmitted by infected mosquitoes that usually bite and infect wild birds, but they can also spread the virus to humans, horses, and other mammals.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection collaborates with all 67 counties for mosquito surveillance and control.

The Lehigh Conservation District oversees the management of this program.

If it rains, the operation will be postponed to Monday, August 5th.
