Motorcyclist killed on I-78 in Lehigh County, highway reopened

SALISBURY TWP., Pa. - The Lehigh County Coroner's office responded to a multiple-vehicle crash on I-78 East near mile marker 58.9 in Salisbury Township, Lehigh County, PA, earlier this morning.


According to the coroner's office, an adult male was found lying on the roadway and

was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:15 am.


According to officials, the crash was reported at 9:57 a.m. Sunday.

Interstate 78 eastbound was closed between Exit 55/Cedar Crest Boulevard and Exit 60/Quakertown, according to a traffic alert from 511PA.com. Rubbernecking also caused delays on I-78 westbound near the crash, according to 511PA.com.


According to reports, the deceased was an operator of a motorcycle that was in collision with another vehicle and a tractor-trailer.


The decedent has been tentatively identified; however, the LCCO is actively working to notify the family and next of kin.

The crash investigation is active and ongoing.


In addition to the coroner's office, the Pennsylvania State Police, Fogelsville Station, and the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office are also involved in the investigation.
