NFL draft hopeful and former Pocono Mountain West football player dead at age 25

A Monroe County native and NFL draft hopeful has passed away, according to an announcement by the school on Wednesday.


AJ Simon, a former Albany defensive lineman was 25 years old.



"The UAlbany football program was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former student-athlete Amitral 'AJ' Simon," the school posted on X. "AJ was a tremendous young man and even better teammate throughout his time at UAlbany."



The cause of death has not been disclosed.


According to a Channel 69 news report, Simon was a Tobyhanna Township native, where he played at Pocono Mountain West High School, where he graduated from in 2017.


He started his college career at Bloomsburg University before playing for Albany, according to WFMZ.


He was a prospect in the NFL draft - which is next week.
