Motorists on the Northeast Extension (I-476) in Lehigh and Bucks County will encounter a bridge replacement project resulting in an overnight northbound road closure this weekend.
According to the PA Turnpike Commission, to allow for demolition and for beams to be safely installed as part of the replacement of bridge NB-349 (Tilghman Street), the Northeast Extension is scheduled to be closed on Sunday from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. between the Quakertown (Exit 44) and Lehigh Valley (Exit 56) interchanges.
The bridge replacement is included in a project to rebuild and expand the Northeast Extension between milepost A53 and A57.

Southbound traffic will remain unaffected.
The following recommended detour will be implemented during the closure:
At Quakertown interchange, follow Route 663 North 3.3 miles
NORTHBOUND DETOUR -
PA Route 663 North 3.3 miles
PA Route 309 North 9.3 miles
Interstate 78 West 6.3 miles
PA Route 309 North 1.0 miles
U.S. Route 22 West 1.1 miles
Re-enter at Lehigh Valley Interchange #56
According to officials, both Pennsylvania State Police and PA Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted areas to assist drivers.
Changeable message signs will provide updates regarding this closure.
Motorists are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly, as work schedules may change based on weather conditions.
