Penn State Berks student killed in motor vehicle accident near campus

SPRING TWP., Pa. - A student at Penn State Berks campus was killed in a one-vehicle crash over the weekend, according to the Reading Eagle.


Xuanyi Zhu, age 20, of Portland, Oregon., was pronounced dead at 4:10 a.m. Saturday at the scene by Berks County Deputy Coroner Sarah Shivers.


Zhu who went by the first name "Will", according to the Reading Eagle was a passenger in the back seat of the vehicle, according to officials. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the article.


According to authorities, the accident took place just before 2 a.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of Tulpehocken Road, not far from the Penn State Berks campus. 


The other occupants of the vehicle were transported to Reading Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.




Zhu was a second-year student at PSU Berks.


Officials at the Berks Campus announced the death Monday morning through their digital notification system:


The message said, “The entire Penn State Berks community extends our heartfelt condolences to Will’s family, friends, and all who knew him,” “This is a time of great sorrow for the entire campus community. As we grieve, please know that there are a variety of resources available to students, faculty, and staff.”
