PennDOT lifts vehicle restrictions on roadways across the region, speed limits still reduced on certain highways

Due to the winter storm impacting the region, vehicle restrictions were implemented, and speed limits were reduced earlier today to 45 mph on many interstates and several other routes in east central PA.

PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel but those who must head out will still see speeds reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:

• Interstate 78 in Berks, Lehigh and Northampton counties;

• Interstate 80 in Carbon and Monroe counties;

• Interstate 176 in Berks County;

• Interstate 380 in Monroe County;

• U.S. 22 in Lehigh and Northampton counties;

• Route 33 in Northampton and Monroe counties.

On roadways with speed restrictions, commercial vehicles not affected by restrictions on these or other roadways must move to the right lane.

PennDOT is continuing to treat roadways in the area and will continue until roads are clear.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
