BETHLEHEM, Pa - On September 20, 2025, at approximately 3:49 a.m., officers from the City of Bethlehem Police Department responded to the area of the 540 Democratic Club, 540 N. New Street, Bethlehem, PA, for a report of shots fired and a fight.
Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and began interviewing witnesses.
While the initial investigation was underway, an adult male arrived at St. Luke’s Hospital–Fountain Hill with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Through video surveillance, witness interviews, and police investigation, it was determined that an argument began inside the establishment and escalated into a physical fight in the parking lot.

Police say that during the altercation, a male suspect and a female suspect assaulted multiple individuals.
The male suspect was identified as Andre C. Cantave.
Cantave was observed striking several individuals before retrieving a firearm.
Investigators determined that Cantave suffered his gunshot wound when he
unintentionally shot himself.
Cantave has been charged with the following offenses:
1. Aggravated Assault – 18 Pa.C.S. § 2702(a)(1)
2. Person Not to Possess Firearms – 18 Pa.C.S. § 6105(a)(1)
3. Possessing Instruments of Crime – 18 Pa.C.S. § 907(a)
4. Simple Assault – 18 Pa.C.S. § 2701(a)(1)
5. Recklessly Endangering Another Person – 18 Pa.C.S. § 2705
The female suspect was identified as Shatika Schaffer, who has been charged with:
Simple Assault – 18 Pa.C.S. § 2701(a)(1)
At this time, the investigation indicates there is no ongoing danger to the public, according to police.
The City of Bethlehem Police Department reminds the public that all parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
