School bus and tow truck collide in Luzerne County sending 49 children and 2 adults to the hospital

Bear Creek Township, Luzerne County


A crash between a school bus and a tow truck occurred sending 49 children and two adults to the hospital in Luzerne County earlier today. The crash took place at approximately 8:10 a.m, according to State Police. The accident took place.on Route 115 (Bear Creek Boulevard) near Laurel Run Road.

Heavy damage could be seen to the front end of both vehicles.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, 49 children in grades K-8 were on the bus at the time of the collision.



Photo courtesy Victor Vega Police report that the bus driver, Suzanne Ent age 53, from Wilkes-Barre, sustained moderate injuries in the crash, while the children on board suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the tow truck, a 28-year-old man from Effort, is believed to have suffered a medical issue while driving which caused him to cross over the road and strike the bus.


“Both vehicle operators were transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley. Another school bus was brought in to transport the children to Geisinger Wyoming Valley and escorted by state police,” Dougherty said.


The charter school notified parents of the crash.
