LEHIGH COUNTY, Pa. - Motorists traveling southbound on the Northeast Extension (Interstate 476) in Lehigh and Bucks County are advised by the Pennsylvania Turnpike (PA Turnpike) that a bridge replacement project will result in an early morning road closure on Sunday.
To safely erect beams for the replacement of bridge NB-349 (Tilghman Street), the Northeast Extension will be closed to southbound traffic on Sunday, August 10, from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. between the Lehigh Valley (Exit 56) and Quakertown (Exit 44) interchanges. Northbound traffic in the area will not be affected.

The bridge replacement is part of a plan to reconstruct and widen the Northeast Extension from milepost A53 to A57.
The following suggested detour will be in place during the closure:
• US 22 East 0.5 miles
• PA 309 South 2.0 miles
• I-78 East 6.2 miles
• PA 309 South 9.2 miles
• PA 663 South 3.2 miles
• Re-enter at the Quakertown Interchange #44
Pennsylvania State Police and PA Turnpike personnel will be positioned at the impacted areas to assist drivers. Changeable message signs will also provide information on this closure.
Motorists are encouraged to plan travel accordingly.
Work schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
To report an incident or other emergency on the PA Turnpike, dial *11 via mobile phone.
