U.S. Geological Survey confirms 2.4 magnitude earthquake in Berks County

BERKS COUNTY, Pa. - The U.S. Geological Survey has confirmed a small earthquake in Berks County. According to the USGS, the 2.4 magnitude quake centered in Wyomissing, near Spring Township.


People reported a loud boom and shaking around 4:30 p.m. Friday.



Earlier in the day, the USGS recorded a 1.0 earthquake near Califon, New Jersey.


On April 5, residents in Berks County reported feeling the 4.8-magnitude earthquake centered in Tewksbury, Hunterdon County, N.J. 


There are no reports of damage or injuries at this time, according to Berks County dispatchers.


The last time an earthquake greater than 2.0 was recorded in Berks County was on November 12, 2021, when a 2.1-magnitude temblor hit the Sinking Spring area, according to the Reading Eagle.
