Volunteers search for dog in York County with pretzel jar stuck on its head

Updated: Aug 22

DILLSBURG, Pa. - Volunteers are searching for a dog in York County that has a pretzel jar stuck on its head.

They first learned about the dog on Sunday.

Volunteers have been looking for the dog since then. The dog is thought to be a Collie or a Collie mix.

Reports indicate that it has been roaming in the Dillsburg area.

Find Toby in PA, a statewide Facebook group for lost pets with over 135,000 members, advises against searching for the dog on foot.

"No one can get close enough to it. We are assuming that it's afraid. And once anyone gets close enough to the dog, it runs in the cornfield. That plastic container is down to, I would say, about a quarter of the way down its neck, and it's been seen trying to get it off, and it can't get it off. So, it's not getting water. It's not getting food. We're worried about it getting proper oxygen," said Beth Miller, volunteer at Canine Rescue of Central Pennsylvania.

The rescue has established a hotline for reporting sightings of the dog: 717-417-0737.

The collie-type dog was last seen near Cabin Hollow and Mount Zion roads in Warrington Township, the shelter said. The post said the dog is typically seen in the early mornings.

The shelter also said a thermal drone operator was en route after receiving more sightings.

“The dog is very tired,” the post said. “We are working very hard to secure him.”
