Active shooter opens fire on FSU campus, at least 4 people hospitalized

UPDATE - At least one person is dead and multiple are injured following today's shooting at FSU. This is so tragic.

At least four individuals were hospitalized following an active shooter incident at Florida State University's Tallahassee campus on Thursday, according to Officials.


The university's emergency alert system issued a warning shortly after noon, advising students to take shelter after reports of a shooter near the Student Union area on campus.


The alert said, “Police are on scene or on the way. Continue to seek shelter and await further instructions.” “Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures.”

A spokesperson told station WCTV that four people were being treated at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital - The extent of their injuries wasn’t immediately known.  


A message on the hospital’s site said it was “actively receiving and caring for patients” in the wake of the incident.


The message read, “At this time, details are still unfolding, and we do not yet have specific information to share.”


“However, we want to assure the community that our teams are fully mobilized and prepared to provide the highest level of care and support to all those affected.”


Videos on social media depicted crowds of individuals dashing through traffic with sirens sounding in the background.


Additional footage captured first responders and SWAT teams converging on the campus.


No further information was available at the time. It was uncertain whether the campus had been secured.
