Three firefighters were injured in Upper Macungie Tuesday evening while returning from training

U. MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. - The Upper Macungie Township Police Department (UMTPD) released new information about a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Tuesday evening, March 12, on Industrial Boulevard and Morris Court.

The crash was between two SUV’s and occurred around 10:37 pm.

The UMTPD reported that Unit 1, and a 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander, failed to stop at a stop sign and struck Unit 2, a 2013 Ford Explorer. According to police, the Ford Explorer was being driven by three Goodwill Fire Company (Station 25) firefighters who were returning from a fire training exercise.

As a result of the collision, the driver of the Ford was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency personnel, according to police.

Police say the three firefighters were treated at a local hospital and released.

The Unit 1 driver will receive traffic citations for Vehicles Entering or Crossing Roadway, Duties at a Stop Sign, and Required Financial Responsibility.
